All in the Family brings together two generations of the Stanton family in a rare celebration of shared creativity across time, place, and medium. Spanning ages from their nineties down, the exhibition unites six artists working in diverse practices—abstract painting, botanical watercolour, ceramics, sculpture, and woodwork.
Though varied in form and expression, the works are linked by a deep respect for craft and a commitment to integrity in making. From Jeff Stanton’s finely crafted woodwork to his brother Ralph’s bold abstractions, and from Phyllis Agam’s meticulous botanical studies to the experimental ceramics and sculptural works of daughters J9, Kerry, and Danielle, each piece carries both individual vision and a thread of family connection.
This exhibition is as much about lineage as it is about art. It invites audiences to consider how creativity is nurtured, inherited, and reimagined within families, offering a tapestry of perspectives shaped by shared history yet uniquely expressed. All in the Family celebrates continuity, difference, and the enduring power of art to connect generations.
To clarify, brothers Jeff and Ralph comprise the older generation; Jeff’s daughters Danielle, J9 and Kerry , with cousin Phyllis, the younger. Is an “artistic gene” evident? It’s true that a great-uncle, Miles Evergood, was a successful artist here and overseas, before WW2, represented in National galleries of Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Canberra, as well as Castlemaine.
With no other joint theme, for this exhibition Danielle and Ralph chose to coordinate impressions of Antarctica (ceramics) with Patagonian glaciers (abstract painting).

GABRIELLE COURTENAY: THE GATHERING
Imogen Cheuge’s Art Almanac Statement
Gabrielle Courtenay’s exhibition The Gathering marks the culmination of a four-decade practice exploring the interconnection of nature and humanity. Wandering the coastlines of Bronte and the industrial streets of Alexandria, the artist collects found objects and natural forms, transforming them into sculptures and paintings that channel the living energies of the environment. Central to the exhibition is the motif of the eye—traditionally a symbol of protection and insight, reimagined by Courtenay as nature’s eye, a portal between the seen and unseen, reminding us that the natural world actively watches, responds, and remembers.
